Can you appoint two executors or personal representatives in your will or trust?

Dennis: Can you have two executors to a will?

Attorney Tom Olsen: Dennis, that's quite simple. The answer is yes, you can have one executor, two, three, four. You can have as many as executors as you want. Dennis, that certainly can be a good idea if you've got children from different marriages, having one from his side, one from her fine side. Dennis, why would you want to have two executors?

Dennis: Well now, somebody was telling me that they had two executors, and I wasn't sure how you would work that out in the event of a death.

Tom: Well, you can have two executors appointed. The Florida law says that in that situation, to transact any business, it would require the signature and consent of both executors. If you want to appoint two executors, that's a good idea. I would qualify by saying this, that you would want to appoint two of your kids that get along. I've had people who appointed kids that don't get along. Boy, you're just asking for trouble in that situation.

Dennis: Yes, that's what I was thinking.
