Is ex-wife entitled to any of husband's estate?

Is ex-wife entitled to any of husband's estate? Watch as Attorney Tom Olsen explains.

Chris: My question is-- my daughter-- her husband passed away just in August. They were married 17 years. He does have an ex-wife with a child. Well, not child, but the child is now going on 22 years old.

Attorney Tom Olsen: Okay.

Chris: The ex-wife made an appearance at the funeral service, said a bunch of ugly things and standing outside of the funeral home with, well--

Attorney Tom Olsen: Hey, Chris. Chris. Chris. Chris.

Chris: Yes?

Attorney Tom Olsen: I don't need the drama.

Chris: Can you hear me?

Attorney Tom Olsen: I don't need the drama, Chris. Just give me a question.

Chris: Okay. The point is, she has said she's going to go after my daughter to get what is rightfully owed to her son.

Attorney Tom Olsen: Okay, Chris.

Chris: But he's of age.

Attorney Tom Olsen: Chris?

Chris: I couldn't feel anything is.

Attorney Tom Olsen: Chris? Did the man who passed away, did he have a will?

Chris: He did have a will, leaving everything to his wife, my daughter.

Attorney Tom Olsen: Okay, Chris. Here's the good news for your daughter. That is, here in the state of Florida, you have no obligation to leave anything to your adult children. So that if he, the husband left everything to his wife, and his only child is 22 years old then that will is solid as a rock. That 22 year old is not going to get anything because he had a will where he left everything to his then present wife, your daughter.

Chris: Right. I'm so glad to hear that.

Attorney Tom Olsen: Okay, Chris. Good luck to you all. Let me know if you need some help with it.
